It's not just fabric

When I mailed the floss organizers to Christine, I did forewarn her that I might be creating a monster. This is why...

This is the whole collection, minus the threads separated for the current project. Each of those rings represents threads in numerical series: 100-199, 200-299, etc.

It's probably an illness, but I don't know who I should make the appointment with...

This is the thread separated to use on the current project.

And notice the DMC thread color card? This is probably 20 years old by now. Go ahead....pat me on the back and offer congratulations! I never updated and bought a new one. I do NOT want to know how many newer colors are available.

I LOVE the "Q Snap" frames. This is the 8" size and I can work for hours without my hands aching.

And THIS is my evening project. Isn't he magnificent? Loving birds runs in the family, don't you think?

He is on Aida 18 (that's
eighteen squares to the inch for non-cross stitch followers). Puts me right up there in the idiot group for working on this in the evening, I guess. My eyesight might need to be checked when this is complete!

We have a fabulous shop in Indianapolis called Needle Fever. I stopped in one day and this fellow was staring at me from the corner. Can you understand why I bought the directions?

An here's one of the hawks that sometimes visits the garden. I was quite upset the first time he caught one of my bird friends and thought maybe I should stop filling the feeders...sort of like setting them up, you know?

And then one of my sons (Dave) talked to me about "everyone" on the food chain needing to eat. Nice to know that when they grow up they can teach us things too! But I do insist that they fly off and eat their dinner elsewhere...

  1. Great organization. I have all my embroidery floss sorted in a similar way. Sure makes it easier to find a color when I need it. I also have a spreadsheet with the numbers of the floss I have on hand so I can check it and see if I need to buy a color I don't have for a new project. Just a little anal retentive from working with so many accountants for 25 years I guess! It keeps all my stuff organized though.

Your eagle is fantastic! Are the threads in the grid marking off every 10 rows? I have never seen that done before, but it sure is a great way to help keep track of the rows and stitches. I will keep that in mind for future use. It will take some time to get it set up but be worthwhile in the long run!

The hawk is great! I love raptors, they are so magnificent. Encouraging them to eat their catch somewhere else is understandable. Everything has to eat but somewhere other than my yard is appreciated by me! It is really neat for you to have them visit your yard, wow!

  2. Wow, love your floss! I have a lot, too, but organized differently. Good to know you do needlepoint. I love the look but don't enjoy it like I do embroidery on cloth. Your eagle is fantastic and I can't wait to see it done. You gonna do one of the hawk too? That whole picture would look great.

  3. Your eagle is going to be stunning. Makes me want to go out and get some cross-stitch patterns again, though I never tried one quite as detailed as yours. I really do need another project to add to the quilts, scrapbooks, garden, and the knitting I've been contemplating... :)

Your swap blocks arrived today. Thank you! I love them. And you'll be pleased to know my productivity this afternoon dipped way way down as I browsed the magazine you included.

  4. Both are incredible birds! I'd never be able to do needlepoint that beautifully! But I could/would feed the other bird! ---"Love"

  5. And how often do you start a cross stitch project only to find you don't have one color needed? (Seems it always goes that way!) I haven't done any cross stitching in years, but is a nice break from quilting at the machine. The eagle is beautiful so far, but that hawk...sitting still and posing...what a ham!

  6. Just seeing your floss makes me want to go and get some stitching out. Love your birds, the one you are stitching and the one that visits you.
Thanks for the tip on the q snap, my hands cramp up with regular hoops. Does the q snap hod the fabric pretty well? Just wondering if it could be used for needlepunch as well.
    Happy stitching.

  7. I guess I can confess that Mom gave me a pattern for an owl out of this same book. It's in my "extra" pile of projects.... The way the eagle is going, I guess I have to pull it out and get started...

  8. At first I thought you had sewn that hawk! Silly me. Your cross stitch is going to be fantastic! As for the threads, well, the less said the better. I'm nervous about your sock drawer.... Ann :-)
